INDONESIA TO BUILD AN US$4.9 BILLION SEMICONDUCTOR INDUSTRY IN BATAM
Indonesia has launched a major semiconductor and green‑energy industrial initiative through a partnership between PT Galang Bumi Industri and several US investors, witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto in Washington, DC. The first-phase investment of US$4.9 billion will build an integrated downstream ecosystem at the Wiraraja GESEIP National Strategic Project in Galang, Batam—covering silica‑quartz purification, polysilicon production, and supporting renewable‑energy infrastructure. US partners Essence Global Group and Tynergy Technology Corporation will lead manufacturing development and knowledge transfer, including a US$250 million facility expected to create around 2,500 skilled jobs. If the initial phase proceeds smoothly, total investment may rise by an additional US$26.7 billion to support wafer ingot production, wafer slicing, and semiconductor fabrication—completing a fully integrated supply chain in Indonesia. The cooperation also includes a development link between the Wiraraja GESEIP zone in Batam and the Solanna Akimel 7 Technopark in Phoenix, Arizona, reinforced by a transnational special economic zone partnership. The initiative is expected to enhance Indonesia’s role in global semiconductor and renewable‑energy supply chains while supporting national goals in AI‑driven data center development, clean energy transition, job creation, and industrial competitiveness.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20260219/257/1953994/ri-gandeng-as-bangun-industri-semikonduktor-senilai-rp8288-triliun-di-batam (ICE GIACARTA)
