INDONESIA EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR MANDATORY STEEL STANDARDS

The Indonesia's Ministry of Industry has postponed by one year the enforcement of mandatory Indonesian National Standards (SNI) for zinc-coated and aluminum-zinc coated steel sheets, giving businesses more time to comply with technical requirements. While regulations for these products have been in place since 2008 and 2009 respectively, the government decided to ease industry concerns by extending the adaptation period, emphasizing that the move is meant to ensure readiness without disrupting supply chains or competition. Despite the relaxation, authorities highlighted that many producers are already prepared, with 11 domestic and seven imported products certified under SNI. The ministry reaffirmed that strengthening standardization is crucial to protect construction integrity, consumer safety, and national interests, urging businesses to complete certification promptly to foster fair competition and safeguard the steel industry’s competitiveness in global markets.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2204999/indonesia-extends-deadline-for-mandatory-steel-standards (ICE GIACARTA)
