TotalEnergies, in partnership with Petronas and Pertamina, plans to begin exploration drilling in the Bobara Working Area (WK) in West Papua in 2027. The project is considered one of the most significant upcoming oil exploration efforts in eastern Indonesia, with the potential to uncover one of the country’s largest oil reserves. SKK Migas (Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas regulator) has emphasized the strategic importance of this drilling, projecting it as a major milestone for national energy security. The collaboration follows TotalEnergies’ acquisition of a 24.5% participating interest in the Bobara block from Petronas in 2025, strengthening its role in Indonesia’s upstream sector.
