INDONESIAN NAVY NEEDS 500 PERSONNEL TO CREW AIRCRAFT CARRIER GIUSEPPE GARIBALDI

Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Operations Assistant Rear Admiral, Yayan Sofiyan, stated that the Indonesian Navy must prepare around 500 sailors to crew the prospective aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi, noting that the number could exceed 500 once non‑core personnel—such as aviation crews and aircraft pilots—are included. He emphasized that the Navy must also prepare the necessary support infrastructure, including berthing facilities, technical requirements, and long-term logistical support for such a large crew, all essential for the effective operation of an aircraft carrier. Meanwhile, the acquisition process of the Giuseppe Garibaldi is still ongoing between the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, the Italian government, and the shipbuilder Fincantieri. Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali expressed hope that the country’s first Italian‑built aircraft carrier will arrive before the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) anniversary on October 5, 2026, although negotiations with the shipyard are still underway.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6189/defense-and-security/indonesian-navy-needs-500-personnel-to-crew-aircraft-carrier-giuseppe-garibaldi  (ICE GIACARTA)
