INDONESIA EYES GLOBAL MARKET FOR VILLAGE COOPERATIVES

Indonesia's Trade Minister, Budi Santoso, has announced a strategic initiative by the Ministry of Trade to empower village cooperatives to enter the global export market. Using the Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) program—highlighted by a recent inaugural cocoa export from Jembrana, Bali—the government aims to shift the export narrative from urban centers to rural areas. To support this, the ministry is providing specialized entrepreneurship training, helping cooperatives meet international standards, and utilizing overseas trade representatives to facilitate business matching and network expansion. Complementing these direct support measures, the ministry is leveraging international trade agreements like the IEU-CEPA and the Indonesia–Canada CEPA to lower market barriers. This aligns with the "From Local to Global" campaign, which successfully helped approximately 1,200 MSMEs generate over US$134.8 million in transactions last year. With a government target to establish 60,000 village cooperatives by the end of 2026, these efforts are designed to transform rural entities into high-value developers of flagship products for the international stage.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/406266/indonesia-eyes-global-market-for-village-cooperatives?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_category (ICE GIACARTA)
