TELEKOM MALAYSIA TO EXIT DNB, TAP U MOBILE FOR 5G UNDER DUAL-NETWORK FRAMEWORK

Kuala Lumpur, 25 February 2026 – Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) plans to terminate its 5G access agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), subject to approval from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). Instead, the company seek to obtain 5G services access from U Mobile Sdn Bhd in line with Malaysia’s dual 5G network framework. TM issued termination notices on February 24, 2026, after U Mobile launched its 5G services and reference access offer (RAO) in January, enabling TM to exit the October 2022 agreement, though it will forfeit RM127.3 million (approximately EUR 26.74 million) in unused prepaid capacity. Its wholly owned unit, TM Technology Services Sdn Bhd, has awarded U Mobile a three-year contract for 5G multi-operator core network (MOCN) services, with costs based on usage and agreed rates. TM said the move supports its convergence strategy and long-term competitiveness, while acknowledging DNB’s role in Malaysia’s nationwide 5G rollout; notably, U Mobile previously signed a RM2.4 billion (approximately EUR 504.16 million) , 10-year deal with TM in May 2025 to leverage TM’s fibre network to reach 80% population coverage by July 2026.Source - https://theedgemalaysia.com/node/793961 (ICE KUALA LUMPUR)
