TOURISM’S CONTRIBUTION TO UKRAINE’S GDP IS PROJECTED TO GROW TO $16.1B IN 10 YEARS
Tourism should serve as a tool for restoring Ukraine’s economy, and a significant increase in the country’s tourism industry is possible after the war ends and full security is restored, market experts believe. According to a WTTC study, by 2035 the contribution of travel and tourism to Ukraine’s GDP could rise to $16.1B, surpassing the pre-Covid 2019 level of $15.5B (6.3% of GDP).By 2035, foreign visitors are expected to generate $4.8B, while domestic tourism could produce as much as $8.7B. “An increase in foreign tourism by 50% is likely primarily after the war ends and security stabilizes completely. Restoring the ability for men to travel abroad freely could also be a key factor. Additionally, the market will benefit from the potential return of Ukrainians abroad, as those who have lived overseas for some time will still be accustomed to traveling”, experts note.Restoring direct air traffic is essential, as it will make traveling to and from Ukraine easier and more affordable. Ukraine’s hospitality sector has considerable growth potential and could assume a larger role in the economy. Last year, tourism contributed 5.2% of GDP, totaling $10.3B, an increase of 15.2% compared to 2024 but still 33.4% below 2019’s level. In 2025, foreign tourists are projected to bring $1.4B into the economy, a 50% rise from 2024 but still 61.3% less than in 2019. Domestic tourism remains more stable, generating $7.2B in 2025, an 11.6% increase over 2024 but 16% below the 2019’s figures.https://ubn.news/tourisms-contribution-to-ukraines-gdp-is-projected-to-grow-to-16-1b-in-10-years/ (ICE KIEV)
