NO INCREASE IN INDONESIA'S ENERGY IMPORT QUOTA UNDER US TRADE DEAL: MINISTER

Indonesia’s Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, confirmed that the new US–Indonesia energy trade agreement—valued at US$15 billion—will not increase the country’s overall energy import volume. Indonesia will continue importing the same amount of LPG, crude oil, and fuel as before, but will shift its import sources to the United States. The Minister emphasized that domestic production remains insufficient to meet national needs, particularly for LPG, where only 1.6 million out of 8.3 million tons can be produced locally. He also noted that the U.S. LPG prices are currently more competitive than those from other suppliers. The minister assured that the agreement respects market mechanisms and will not compromise Indonesia’s energy sovereignty, stressing that the policy is aligned with national interests and domestic demand. Under the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), Indonesia plans to purchase LPG, crude oil, and refined fuels from the U.S., along with other energy commodities such as metallurgical coal and clean coal technology. The government reiterated that while the import sources are shifting, the volume and strategic control remain unchanged.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/406614/no-increase-in-energy-import-quota-under-us-trade-deal-minister  (ICE GIACARTA)
