INDONESIA’S CHANDRA ASRI SECURES US$200M FROM DANANTARA & INA FOR CA‑EDC PROJECT
Indonesian petrochemical company, PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (TPIA) has entered into a Conditional Share Subscription Agreement with Danantara Indonesia and the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) to strengthen Indonesia’s domestic production of caustic soda and ethylene dichloride (EDC). The two investors will provide a combined US$200 million to develop a new CA‑EDC plant in Cilegon, Banten, operated by TPIA’s subsidiary PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA). The facility—part of an US$800 million National Strategic Project—aims to reduce import dependence and support Indonesia’s industrial downstreaming agenda, and is targeted to begin operations in 2027. The investment is positioned as a major step toward enhancing national supply‑chain resilience, creating jobs, and providing essential raw materials for key industries such as alumina refining, detergents, and PVC manufacturing. Executives from Danantara, INA, and Chandra Asri emphasized that the project reinforces Indonesia’s long‑term industrial competitiveness and aligns with efforts to attract ESG‑oriented global investment. Equipped with modern membrane cell technology, the plant is expected to produce 400,000 tons of dry caustic soda and 500,000 tons of EDC annually, while generating 3,000 construction jobs and 250 permanent high‑skill positions.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6230/business-and-investment/chandra-asri-secures-us-200m-investment-from-danantara-and-ina-for-landmark-ca-edc-project (ICE GIACARTA)
