Kazakhstan's seaports increase cargo transshipment to 8 mln tonnes in 2025Cargo throughput at Kazakhstan’s seaports rose to 8 million tonnes in 2025, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov said in an article published Tuesday in the Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper.“In the twelve months of 2025, cargo throughput through the ports increased to 8 million tonnes, while container traffic exceeded 90,000 TEUs. For comparison, in 2024 the figure stood at about 60,000 TEUs,” Bektenov wrote.He said the combined design capacity of the country’s seaports now totals 22 million tonnes per year, including about 15 million tonnes at the Port of Aktau and 7 million tonnes at the Port of Kuryk.The Port of Aktau, located on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea, handles dry cargo, crude oil and petroleum products.The Port of Kuryk, situated along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route about 90 kilometers south of Aktau, includes a ferry complex with rail and road terminals and specializes in the transshipment of grain, petroleum products, fertilizers, chemicals and other cargoes.
