INDONESIA UNVEILS MULTI-BUSINESS FORESTRY PLAN IN VIENNA SUMMIT
Indonesia presented its new multi‑business forestry strategy at the Global Summit on Advancing Sustainable Forest‑Based Bioeconomy Approaches in Vienna, positioning it as a legally supported framework to transform sustainable forest management and strengthen the forest‑based bioeconomy. The policy, grounded in Law No. 6/2023, expands forest utilization beyond timber to include non‑timber forest products, environmental services, and nature‑based tourism. It also streamlines licensing by integrating all permits into the Forest Utilization Business License (PBPH), while ensuring sustainability safeguards remain in place. Participants, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF), and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), discussed policy innovation and global cooperation. Indonesia joined Finland, Japan, and Australia in emphasizing the importance of technological innovation, legal certainty, and supply-chain traceability to strengthen global market confidence in forest-based products. At the summit—attended by representatives from 60 countries and more than 120 international organizations—Indonesia emphasized the importance of technological innovation, legal certainty, and supply‑chain traceability to enhance global confidence in sustainable forest‑based products. Discussions highlighted forests’ critical role in addressing climate change and advancing a sustainable bioeconomy, with key themes including low‑carbon timber construction and increasing value‑added non‑timber forest products to support local communities.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/407122/indonesia-unveils-multi-business-forestry-plan-in-vienna-summit (ICE GIACARTA)
