MINISTER CONFIRMS PRIVATE FUNDING FOR INDONESIA’S NEW OIL STORAGE
Indonesia’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, announced that the government has secured a consortium of domestic and international private investors—excluding any from the United States—to develop the national Strategic Petroleum Storage (SPS) project. The initiative supports President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to strengthen national energy security by reaching a 90‑day reserve capacity, aligning with International Energy Agency (IEA) standards. Indonesia currently has only 21–25 days of storage, making expanded physical capacity a key priority. The new facilities will primarily store crude oil, with refined fuel storage still under evaluation. The SPS infrastructure will be built in Sumatra due to its strategic location along major shipping routes, with the feasibility study now being finalized and construction targeted to begin later in 2026. According to Bahlil, the expanded storage capacity is essential as Indonesia plans to import larger volumes of oil to secure supply and reduce vulnerability to market volatility. He emphasized the need to “fix the system now” to ensure long‑term energy resilience, noting that Pertamina has been instructed to increase refinery tank capacity if refined fuel is included in the project scope.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6249/energy-and-resources/bahlil-confirms-private-funding-for-indonesia-s-new-oil-storage-no-u-s-investors-involved (ICE GIACARTA)
