INDONESIA REAFFIRMS HALAL CERTIFICATION BY OCTOBER 2026 AT WTO FORUM

Indonesia has reaffirmed that its halal certification policy will proceed according to the established timeline, with full enforcement beginning in October 2026. The government communicated this position during a World Trade Organization (WTO) Specific Trade Concern meeting, emphasizing that no further extensions will be granted to the transition period, which had already been prolonged until October 17, 2026. According to the Head of Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, the schedule has been clear from the outset, and Indonesia intends to maintain regulatory certainty. The policy applies to a wide range of products circulating in the Indonesian market, including those from micro and small enterprises, imported goods, slaughtered products, and related services. Products containing non‑halal ingredients may still be marketed, provided they are clearly labeled.Haikal also highlighted that recognition of foreign halal certificates is conducted bilaterally on a reciprocal basis. Only certification bodies authorized or accredited by competent authorities in the exporting country — and recognized by Indonesia — may certify products destined for the Indonesian market. The ministry underscored the importance of these mutual recognition arrangements for international trade cooperation. Additionally, Indonesia continues to strengthen halal logistics requirements covering packaging, storage, and distribution to protect product integrity and prevent cross‑contamination throughout the supply chain.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2248520/indonesia-reaffirms-halal-certification-by-october-2026-at-wto-forum (ICE GIACARTA)
