KAZAKHSTAN-TRADE-ROUTE-GROWTH

TITR cargo shipments surged fivefold in seven yearsCargo shipments along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) have surged fivefold over the past seven years, increasing from 800,000 tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes annually, Kazakhstan's Transport Ministry said Tuesday.Container traffic is growing particularly fast, with about 77,000 twenty-foot equivalent units transported along the route in 2025. The ministry said it plans to increase that figure to 300,000 TEUs by 2029.Officials attributed the growth to infrastructure development, streamlined customs procedures and reduced delivery times along the route, which have fallen to 13-17 days from 28-32 days previously. As part of efforts to develop the corridor, Kazakhstan is modernizing port and railway infrastructure. Dredging has been completed in the harbor of the Kuryk port, with similar work planned for the Aktau port in 2026. A multi-purpose terminal, Sarzha, with annual capacity of 5 million tonnes is under construction at the Kuryk port in partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports Group.A container hub has also been established at the Aktau port, and a Kazakh terminal with capacity of 120,000 TEUs has begun operating at the Georgian port of Poti. The Trans-Caspian route connects China, Kazakhstan, Caucasus nations, Turkey and European markets and is considered a key trade corridor between Asia and Europe.
