In 2025, demand for sunflower oil in China declined sharply due to a substantial price increase. While China imported 1.5 million tons of the product in 2024, it dropped to 1.09 million tons in 2025, and decreased further to only 500,000 tons in 2025. During this period, the share of Ukrainian sunflower oil in Chinese imports fell from 53% in 2022 to 10-15% in 2025 because of complex logistics and a shift of exports to the EU market. Russia remains China’s top sunflower oil supplier, although its share decreased from 65% in 2024 to 50-55% in 2025.Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to be the largest supplier of sunflower oil to the EU, which imported 1.04 million tons from July 2025 to February 2026 (compared to 1.28 million tons during the same period in 2024-2025).
