INDONESIA TO PHASE OUT DIESEL POWER PLANTS AS SOLAR PROJECTS BEGIN

Indonesia plans to gradually retire thousands of diesel-powered electricity generators as soon as newly built solar power plants begin operating. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said the government aims to deploy up to 100 gigawatts of solar capacity, mainly to electrify about 5,700 rural villages that still lack reliable power. The solar rollout is part of a broader strategy that includes accelerating geothermal development to strengthen energy security amid global tensions and volatile oil prices. Construction of new solar and geothermal facilities is scheduled to begin after Eid al-Fitr. Diesel generators will be the first to be phased out and replaced with renewable sources. Indonesia's Investment Minister, Rosan Roeslani, recently confirmed that foreign investors have committed around US$1.4 billion to build factories producing components for up to 50 gigawatts of solar capacity, with an initial 13‑gigawatt phase focused on regions that already have grid infrastructure.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-to-phase-out-diesel-power-plants-as-solar-projects-begin  (ICE GIACARTA)
