FOREIGN DEMAND RISES FOR INDONESIA'S UREA AMID IRAN-US WAR: MINISTER

Rising geopolitical tensions from the Iran–United States war have boosted global demand for Indonesian urea fertilizer, with many countries seeking large-volume imports regardless of price. Indonesia's Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, explained that this sudden surge in demand has made Indonesia more competitive globally and even allowed aging fertilizer factories—previously considered inefficient and costly—to resume operations. He noted that the situation creates an unexpected opportunity to revitalize Indonesia’s fertilizer industry as international buyers urgently seek secure supplies. State-owned PT Pupuk Indonesia, the largest urea producer in the Asia Pacific, Middle East, and North Africa, maintains strong production capacity and ensures sufficient supply for domestic farmers. Corporate Secretary Yehezkiel Adiperwira confirmed that the company has adequate production levels and raw material reserves, producing up to 14.5 million tons of fertilizer annually, with urea output fully meeting national needs. Because Indonesia’s urea production relies on locally sourced and government‑regulated natural gas, the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz is not expected to disrupt national fertilizer availability.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/408175/foreign-demand-rises-for-indonesias-urea-amid-iran-us-war-minister (ICE GIACARTA)
