UKRAINE SHIFTS BERRY EXPORTS TOWARD HIGHER-VALUE EU CONSUMER MARKETS.
Ukraine is gradually reducing its share of berry product exports to Poland and is shifting to final consumer markets, the Berry Growing of Ukraine association reports. It is noted that Ukraine’s position in the European market for frozen fruits and berries remains varied.Specifically, Ukraine accounts for about 9.45% of the total import of these products by EU countries in monetary terms. According to analysts, Ukraine’s share in Germany is 9.5%, while in Poland it is 24% of imports in this category. Poland continues to buy Ukrainian berries as raw material and exports frozen products to other countries, which is unprofitable for Ukrainian producers. However, the last three years have shown a positive trend: Ukraine is gradually diversifying its exports and reducing reliance on the Polish market by switching to direct supplies to France, Germany, and other countries. So far, this diversification is mainly limited to a few key crops, primarily raspberries and blueberries.Additionally, due to adverse weather conditions last year the production and export volumes of Ukrainian currants decreased. Bulgaria, Italy, Poland, and Germany remain the main buyers of frozen berries.https://ubn.news/ukraine-is-increasing-direct-supplies-of-berries-to-france-and-germany-without-polands-mediation/ (ICE KIEV)
