INDONESIA AND SINGAPORE FINALIZE CLEAN ELECTRICITY EXPORT PLAN

Indonesia and Singapore are advancing a clean energy partnership aimed at transforming the Riau Islands—Batam, Bintan, and Karimun—into a regional hub for green technology and sustainable industrial development. Beyond plans to export clean electricity, Indonesia seeks to leverage renewable energy availability to attract global tech investments and establish environmentally friendly industrial zones. According to Indonesia's Energy Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, preparations for the industrial areas are nearly complete, with both countries reporting strong progress in technical discussions. The collaboration also includes potential development of low‑carbon technologies such as carbon capture and storage (CCS), supported by new Indonesian regulations. The initiative aligns with Indonesia’s national renewable energy expansion, including its 100 GW solar power development program, which aims to meet domestic needs while enabling potential energy exports. However, challenges remain, particularly the higher cost of green energy compared to fossil fuels. Both governments view the partnership as a strategic step to strengthen clean energy leadership in ASEAN, combining Indonesia’s vast renewable resources with Singapore’s technological and investment capabilities. Pilot projects in Batam, Bintan, and Karimun are expected to begin soon under the framework of previously signed memorandums of understanding.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2265502/indonesia-and-singapore-finalize-clean-electricity-export-plan  (ICE GIACARTA)
