INDONESIA FAST-TRACKS US$20B MASELA GAS PROJECT AFTER LANDMARK DEAL

Indonesia is accelerating the long-delayed US$20 billion Abadi Masela gas project in Maluku, with Indonesia's Energy Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, pushing for final investment decisions this year. After meeting INPEX CEO Takayuki Ueda in Tokyo, Bahlil emphasized urgency, noting the project has reached 25% completion and aims to begin the FEED phase by mid-2026 alongside EPC tenders. The government has cleared key administrative hurdles, including environmental and forest approvals, to keep the project on track. The Abadi Masela field, located in the Arafura Sea, is expected to produce 9 million tonnes of gas annually, serving as a major driver for eastern Indonesia’s economy and a critical energy source for domestic industries. To secure supply certainty, Bahlil proposed state-owned Danantara could purchase gas if buyers are not secured by 2026. With full government backing and INPEX’s commitment, Indonesia envisions the project as a cornerstone of its future green energy hub.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/408682/indonesia-fast-tracks-us20b-masela-gas-project-after-landmark-deal (ICE GIACARTA)
