Honda Cars India has announced plans to manufacture its upcoming electric vehicle model “O Alpha” at its Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, with an investment of about Rs. 1,200 crore (US$ 129.8 million). The new electric SUV will form part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its presence in India’s growing electric mobility market. The company plans to utilize the investment for upgrading and retooling manufacturing facilities, which will enable the Tapukara plant to produce electric vehicles. The initiative supports India’s cleaner transportation goals while it helps the government achieve its Make in India program, which seeks to develop domestic production capacity. The project will create advantages for the Rajasthan industrial sector by bringing new investments, which will help the automotive industry to develop new technologies.The Tapukara manufacturing facility, which covers almost 450 acres of land, has the capacity to produce approximately 180000 vehicles each year.
