CONSTRUCTION PERMITS FROM OEAB JUMPED BY 37% IN 2M-2026

Construction permits jumped by 37.6% in the first two months of 2026 (2M-2026) against figures from the same period the year prior. Construction permits for 2M-2026 increased to 1,238,757 m2, up from 900,188 m2 in 2M-2025, as per figures from the Order of Engineers and Architects of Beirut (OEAB).  In detail, looking at the regional distribution of construction permits in 2025, Mount Lebanon took the lion’s share with 48.9% of the total. South Lebanon followed with 21.7% of the total during the period.  The Beirut and The Bekaa regions followed with 10.8% and 9.4% of total construction permits respectively during the period. The Nabattiyeh region had a contribution of 9.0% of total followed by North Lebanon with a contribution of 0.4% of total.  This increase in construction permits was due to increases in construction permits for Mount Lebanon,  Nabattiyeh and South Lebanon of 46.7%, 42.1% and 4.6% respectively between 2M-2025 and 2M-2026.  Construction permits for Beirut almost tripled in 2M-2026 compared to the same period the year prior. The increase was partially offset by decreases in construction permits in the Bekaa regions of 60.7% during the period.  Additionally, at the level of the distribution of direct execution order transactions by type, the majority of direct execution orders came for single dwellings (45.3% of the total) in 2M-2026. Residential buildings and trade-related buildings & offices followed with contributions of 42.8% and 5.9% respectively during the period. Economic sector buildings accounted for 2.2% of the total while other projects consisted of 3.9% of the total in 2M-2026, as per data from OEAB. (ICE BEIRUT)
