Kazakhstan's 'Google tax' revenue jumps 63% in 2025Revenue from Kazakhstan's so-called "Google tax" reached 57 billion tenge in 2025, a nearly 63% increase from 35 billion tenge in 2024, a senior finance official said Thursday."Since the mechanism was introduced, the budget has received 146 billion tenge in VAT," said Seilzhan Akhmetov, deputy chairman of the State Revenue Committee at the Ministry of Finance. "In 2025 alone, revenues amounted to 57 billion tenge."Speaking at a news conference, Akhmetov said 123 foreign taxpayers have now registered under the VAT framework for e-commerce, including major international digital platforms and marketplaces."The introduction of the Google tax mechanism has made it possible to tax foreign digital platforms, increase budget revenues and create fairer competitive conditions between foreign and domestic companies," Akhmetov said.The rules, which took effect in 2022, require international companies providing digital services to Kazakh consumers to pay a 12% VAT, commonly referred to as the "Google tax." From 2022 to 2024, foreign companies paid 75 billion tenge into the state budget.Companies already paying the digital tax include Apple, Amazon, Alibaba, Aliexpress, Adobe, Canva, Chess, Ebay, Google, GTA, iHerb, Huawei, Meta, Microsoft, Netflix, Nintendo, Ozon, Open Ai LLC, Pinduoduo, Temu, TikTok, Samsung, Sony and Zoom.
