ENI FINALIZES LARGE GAS PROJECT INVESTMENT IN EAST KALIMANTAN, INDONESIA

ENI has officially taken the Final Investment Decision (FID) for two major deep-sea gas projects off East Kalimantan: the Gendalo-Gandang (South Hub) and Geng North-Gehem (North Hub). Valued at around US$15 billion, the projects will utilize advanced deep-sea production technology and existing infrastructure like the Bontang LNG Plant to boost efficiency and accelerate commercialization. Together, they hold an estimated 10 trillion cubic feet of gas and 550 million barrels of condensate, with production expected to begin in 2028 and peak in 2029 at about 2 billion cubic feet of gas per day and 90,000 barrels of condensate per day. The projects are seen as a milestone for Indonesia’s energy resilience and a strong signal of investor confidence in the country’s upstream oil and gas sector. They are expected to generate significant economic benefits, including thousands of jobs, and will support both domestic energy supply and LNG exports. Additionally, the assets will be integrated into a new joint venture between Eni and Petronas, targeting production of over 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by 2029, further cementing East Kalimantan as a strategic hub for Indonesia’s gas industry.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/perusahaan-minyak-italia-eni-indonesia-finalkan-investasi-proyek-gas-besar-di-kaltim (ICE GIACARTA)
