INDONESIA OFFERS MABELO BLOCK TO INVESTORS, ENCOURAGING OIL & GAS EXPLORATION
The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), has officially offered the Mabelo Oil and Gas Working Area (WK Mabelo) to investors as part of its efforts to strengthen national energy security. WK Mabelo, located onshore and offshore in Southeast Sulawesi, spans 7,334.24 km² and holds an estimated 282 million stock tank barrels (MMSTB) of oil and gas resources. The offered production sharing contract uses a cost‑recovery scheme with a 55:45 split for oil and 50:50 for gas, designed to attract investors. To encourage exploration, the government has set a three‑year firm work commitment that includes geological and geophysical studies, plus either 250 km² of 3D seismic acquisition or 500 km of 2D seismic acquisition. Investors must also pay a minimum US$200,000 signature bonus. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to boost upstream oil and gas activity, discover new reserves, and ensure long‑term domestic energy availability amid Indonesia’s continued reliance on fossil fuels.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/pemerintah-tawarkan-wk-mabelo-kepada-investor-dorong-eksplorasi-migas-nasional (ICE GIACARTA)
