INDONESIA & US LAUNCH LANDMARK GEOTHERMAL LITHIUM PROJECT IN CENTRAL JAVA
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has awarded a US$3.9 million grant to support a pilot project using advanced American direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology in Indonesia. Through this initiative, Lilac Solutions will deploy its ion‑exchange system at PT Geo Dipa Energi’s geothermal facilities in the Dieng Plateau, aiming to create Indonesia’s first large‑scale geothermal‑brine lithium extraction site. The project is intended to strengthen global critical mineral supply chains, position Indonesia as a reliable lithium source, and demonstrate a more efficient and environmentally responsible method of producing high‑purity lithium carbonate. The partnership also supports Indonesia’s national downstreaming strategy by unlocking additional economic value from existing geothermal operations and advancing the development of a domestic battery industry. USTDA will help connect GDE with potential U.S. off‑takers, paving the way for broader adoption across the Indo‑Pacific. Indonesian leaders emphasized the project’s role in enhancing lithium self‑sufficiency, promoting sustainable resource use, and deepening strategic cooperation with the United States, while Lilac Solutions highlighted the opportunity to showcase American ion‑exchange technology at scale.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/6350/energy-and-resources/u-s-and-indonesia-launch-landmark-geothermal-lithium-project-in-central-java (ICE GIACARTA)
