SYRIA RESTORES 100 MW UNIT AT MHARDEH PLANT AFTER 10-YEAR HIATUS
The Syrian Ministry of Energy announced on Friday the reactivation of a 100-megawatt generating unit at the Mhardeh thermal power plant in Hama Province, after more than a decade out of service, following rehabilitation by national teams. Energy Minister Mohammad al‑Bashir visited the plant during Eid al‑Fitr and oversaw the unit’s startup. He said the move will improve electricity production and is part of a broader plan to rehabilitate the national grid using Syrian expertise. He noted that the ministry continues to implement its rehabilitation plan for the national power grid, relying primarily on Syrian expertise. Al-Bashir congratulated staff working through the holiday and praised their efforts in completing the project despite technical and logistical challenges. The Mhardeh plant is one of the main power generation facilities in central Syria, and its partial return to service forms part of a wider government plan to rehabilitate damaged infrastructure.
