INDONESIA PUSHES SUSTAINABLE ENERGY TRANSITION
Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto has directed government agencies to accelerate the replacement of diesel power plants with solar power, aiming to cut electricity generation costs and strengthen the country’s transition toward sustainable energy amid rising global oil prices. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto explained that diesel‑based electricity places a heavy financial burden on the state budget due to fuel subsidies. Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, has been assigned to help resolve systemic issues related to the diesel power infrastructure. Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto added that although diesel plants remain widely used across Indonesia, they should be gradually phased out in favor of renewable energy—especially solar power—because of its superior economic and environmental benefits. To support this shift, the government has formed a special task force led by Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to accelerate the national energy transition. Bahlil noted that Indonesia is advancing clean‑energy initiatives with plans to develop up to 100 gigawatts of solar power capacity. Priority for new solar deployment will be given to schools, rural areas, and remote regions that lack reliable access to the national grid. This move is expected to expand electricity access, reduce subsidy burdens, and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, including motorbikes and cars. Overall, the initiative forms part of Indonesia’s long‑term strategy to improve energy security, lower dependence on fossil fuels, and promote green, sustainable economic growth in the years ahead.Source: https://en.vietnamplus.vn/indonesia-pushes-sustainable-energy-transition-post339751.vnp (ICE GIACARTA)
