India’s media and entertainment (M&E) sector is expected to grow steadily and reach a size of Rs. 3.3 lakh crore (US$ 37.9 billion) by 2028. This growth is expected to be driven by robust growth in the digital media, advertisements, and live entertainment segments. The sector grew by 9% year-on-year to Rs. 2.78 lakh crore (US$ 32.1 billion) in 2025, indicating the sector's growing contribution to the economy. The growth is expected to be around 7% CAGR, supported by rising digital consumption, increasing smartphone penetration, and evolving consumer preferences. Digital media has emerged as the largest segment for the media and entertainment sector by crossing the Rs. 1 lakh crore (US$ 10.82 billion) revenue mark. Digital advertisements contributed Rs. 94,700 crore (US$ 10.25 billion), driven by robust growth in the segment.The growth of the sector also gets a boost from the performance of advertising and live events, where the total advertising revenues have grown by 13.5% to Rs. 1.5 lakh crore (US$ 16.23 billion). Additionally, live events have registered a significant growth of 44% in 2025, with higher expenditure on concerts, weddings, government events, and large-scale gatherings. Subscription revenues from digital platforms have also registered a sharp growth of 60% to Rs. 16,300 crore (US$ 1.76 billion) due to premium content availability and the rise of OTT platforms. Despite global headwinds, traditional segments such as print have demonstrated resilience, with changing content consumption patterns and content demand from regions contributing to the evolution of the sector.
