INDONESIAN CERAMIC PRODUCERS DEMAND SECURE NATURAL GAS SUPPLY

Indonesian ceramic producers are urging the government to implement a domestic market obligation (DMO) for natural gas to secure adequate supply for local industries. The Indonesian Ceramic Industry Association (Asaki) argues that a DMO is essential to maintain the sector’s contribution to the national economy, as ceramic manufacturers are currently facing gas supply disruptions, rising energy prices, and stronger import competition. These issues have reduced the industry’s production utilization rate to around 70–72% in early 2026, below the target of 80%, directly affecting factory operations and overall productivity. Asaki stresses that natural gas should first support domestic industry due to its job‑creation impact and ability to attract new investment. Government data shows that Indonesia’s ceramics industry has an annual installed production capacity of 650 million m² and is expected to reach a 73% utilization rate in 2025, employing around 150,000 workers. The non‑oil and gas processing sector, a major economic contributor, grew 5.17% in the first three quarters of 2025 and accounted for 17.27% of national GDP, with exports representing over 80% of total national shipments. Indonesia remains optimistic about becoming one of the world’s top four ceramic producers. Meanwhile, the Central Statistics Agency reported that natural gas exports reached US$7.35 billion in 2025, highlighting the ongoing tension between export revenues and domestic industrial needs.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/dmo-please-indonesian-ceramic-producers-demand-secure-natural-gas-supply  (ICE GIACARTA)
