SYRIAN ENERGY MINISTER DISCUSSES COOPERATION, GAS SUPPLY WITH IRAQI OIL MINISTER
Syrian Energy Minister, Mohammed al-Bashir, discussed on Thursday with Iraqi Oil Minister, Hayyan Abdul Ghani, ways of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, in a way that serves mutual interests and benefits both states. During a phone call, the two sides praised joint efforts to begin exporting Iraqi oil through the Syrian territory, pointing to the possibility of supplying domestic gas to Syria to boost energy security and meet local needs. The talks also addressed the rehabilitation of oil pipelines, particularly the Kirkuk-Banias one, as to contribute to developing and strengthening the oil export process. The Iraqi Oil Minister said that this cooperation will continue sustainably and will not be connected to current circumstances or the ongoing war, stressing his country’s commitment to developing bilateral relations in this vital sector. The first shipments of Iraqi fuel arrived at Banias refinery tanks via al-Tanf border crossing, in preparation for exporting it to global markets. (ICE BEIRUT)
