SYRIA–GERMANY AIR TRANSPORT DEAL TO BOOST CIVIL AVIATION SECTOR

The head of the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority said Wednesday that a newly signed air transport agreement with Germany marks a significant step toward developing civil aviation in Syria, strengthening bilateral cooperation and aligning the sector with international standards.  Omar Hosari, head of the Authority, told SANA the development of civil aviation is a strategic priority, describing the sector as a key pillar of economic growth and a bridge connecting Syria with the world while enhancing its regional and international presence.  Hosari said efforts are underway to modernize airport infrastructure, upgrade the national fleet and improve service efficiency in line with international standards.  He noted that the future of aviation “is not limited to upgrading facilities and equipment,” but also depends on building sustainable partnerships with leading countries and companies.  He added that Syria is open to international cooperation in investment, knowledge transfer, training and modern technology to support mutual growth.  Hosari said the next phase requires integrated efforts to adopt sustainability concepts in aviation, adhere to environmental standards and keep pace with digital transformation, which has become a core component of the global air transport industry.  He added that the authority’s participation in a roundtable on economy and investment in Berlin reflects a commitment to opening new avenues for cooperation and building relationships based on trust and transparency, helping revitalize the aviation sector and strengthen its role in development and connectivity.  The agreement was one of several signed during the official visit of President Ahmad al-Sharaa to Germany on March 29, when a government delegation signed several cooperation agreements in Berlin, including the air transport deal.
