ENERGY MINISTER SAYS NEW HOLDING COMPANIES RESTRUCTURE AND BOOST SYRIA’S ENERGY SECTOR

Minister of Energy Mohammad al-Bashir said newly issued presidential decrees establishing holding companies in the energy sector mark a strategic step toward restructuring governance and improving institutional performance amid global shifts.  In a post on X, al-Bashir described the move as “an ambitious step toward the future,” aimed at enhancing institutional flexibility and increasing productivity.  He said the restructuring is intended to support more effective management of national resources.  “The transformation will enable us to keep pace with global developments and ensure the sustainability of our resources with competitive national efficiency,” he added.  On Monday, President Ahmad al-Sharaa issued three decrees establishing new entities under the framework, including the Syrian Mining Company, the Syrian Electricity Company, and a public economic institution responsible for drinking water and sanitation services.  The measures are part of broader government efforts to reorganize the energy and infrastructure sectors, improve service quality, and strengthen operational capacity amid mounting economic challenges.
