INDONESIA TO IMPLEMENT COLOR‑CODED “NUTRI‑LEVEL” LABELS
Indonesia’s Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has approved a revised draft regulation introducing the Nutri‑Level labeling system, which uses alphabetical grades (A–D) and color codes to indicate sugar, salt, and fat content in food and beverages. According to BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar, the system awaits harmonization and approval from the Ministries of Health, Trade, and Law before being officially enacted and published in the state gazette. Once completed, the regulation will be implemented immediately. The Nutri‑Level initiative aims to raise public awareness of excessive sugar, salt, and fat intake, which contributes significantly to non‑communicable diseases—responsible for 73% of deaths in Indonesia, with nearly 11% of the population affected by diabetes. During the initial transition phase, the labeling requirement will focus on sweetened beverages to curb high sugar consumption. Detailed criteria for each Nutri‑Level category are still under discussion pending inter‑ministerial harmonization.Source: https://health.detik.com/berita-detikhealth/d-8434830/bpom-sudah-beri-lampu-hijau-kapan-nutri-level-diterapkan (ICE GIACARTA)
