GRESIK SEZ HOSTS INDONESIA'S FIRST MELAMINE PLANT PROJECT
Construction has begun on Indonesia’s first melamine plant in the Gresik Special Economic Zone (SEZ), East Java, with a US$600 million investment by PT GEABH Joint Technology. The facility will process natural gas into liquid ammonia and further into high‑value derivatives such as urea, melamine, and ammonium nitrate. According to Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, the project marks a major milestone for Indonesia’s downstream industry and is expected to strengthen key sectors including agriculture, chemicals, and manufacturing, while enhancing Indonesia’s role in global supply chains. It is also projected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in surrounding communities. The Gresik SEZ has become a significant driver of investment and industrial development, contributing US$6.1 billion—about 31 percent—of total SEZ investment nationwide by the end of 2025. The area plays a crucial role in boosting exports and regional economic performance, with manufacturing accounting for over half of Gresik’s Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP). The development of the SEZ has also supported improvements in local welfare, reducing unemployment from 8.00 percent to 5.47 percent and increasing the Human Development Index from 76.98 in 2021 to 79.69 in 2025.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/411719/gresik-sez-hosts-indonesias-first-melamine-plant-project (ICE GIACARTA)
