BALI PROPOSED AS INDONESIA’S NEW FINANCIAL HUB,A SAFE HAVEN FOR GLOBAL INVESTOR

Indonesia is considering establishing a special financial center, with Bali emerging as a leading candidate due to its reputation as a safe and attractive destination for global investors amid rising geopolitical tensions. President Prabowo Subianto highlighted during a government meeting on April 8, 2026, that Indonesia is increasingly viewed as one of the safest countries even in scenarios of global conflict, pointing to Bali’s large expatriate communities. The proposal, long suggested by National Economic Council Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, aims to draw investment funds that are being diverted from conflict‑prone regions such as the Middle East. The initiative aligns with Indonesia’s broader strategy to develop new economic centers outside Java and reduce the island’s disproportionate contribution to national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), currently over 58 percent. A major component of this strategy is the development of the new capital city Nusantara in East Kalimantan, envisioned not only as an administrative center but also as a catalyst for economic growth across Kalimantan and eastern Indonesia. Officials emphasize that Indonesia’s geographic position, resource wealth, and neutral foreign policy enhance its appeal as a stable investment hub during a time of global uncertainty.Source: https://rri.co.id/en/business/2320870/bali-proposed-as-indonesias-new-financial-hub-to-be-safe-haven-for-global-investors  (ICE GIACARTA)
