INDONESIA SEES STRONG INDUSTRY PUSH FOR GREEN STEEL TRANSITION

Indonesia’s Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, highlighted the strong commitment of the domestic steel industry to transition toward green steel, driven by rising global demand for low-emission products. He noted that members of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA) are actively adopting greener technologies, with government support through grant cooperation with the World Bank to build infrastructure for green industrialization. Agus expressed optimism, emphasizing that proven technologies are already available to accelerate this transformation. He also pointed to pilot projects using Carbon Capture Utilization (CCU) technology, which not only reduce emissions but also generate valuable by-products. At PT Petrokimia Gresik, CCU trials have cut emissions from one stack by 94% over the past year, while producing soda ash and baking soda with economic benefits. This dual impact—environmental and economic—underscores Indonesia’s strategy to modernize its steel sector while contributing to global sustainability goals.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/411957/indonesia-sees-strong-industry-push-for-green-steel-transition?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=desktop&utm_campaign=top_news (ICE GIACARTA)
