STATISTICS DEPARTMENT RELEASES CONSUMER PRICE INDEX REPORT
The Department of Statistics released its monthly report on the general consumer price index for March, which reached 1.87 percent compared to the same month in 2025, and 0.76 percent (less than one percentage point) compared to the preceding February of the same year.On a cumulative basis, inflation for the first three months of this year reached 1.36 percent, compared to 2.0 percent for the same period in 2025.The inflation rate during this period was 2.0 percent. Regarding commodity groups, the rise in the overall consumer price index for March compared to the same month in 2025 was primarily due to increases in the prices of personal belongings (34.76%), vegetables, dried legumes, and canned goods (15.87%), oils and fats (14.91%), tea, coffee, and cocoa (11.91%), and fruits and nuts (4.67%). Conversely, prices decreased for meat and poultry (3.34%), household appliances (2.68%), fuel and lighting (1.49%), and fish and seafood (1.36%).The increase in prices for these items was primarily driven by price reductions in meat and poultry (3.34%), household appliances (2.68%), fuel and lighting (1.49%), and fish and seafood (1.36%). Comparing the cumulative consumer price index for the first three months of this year with the same period in 2025, the index for personal effects rose by 37.85 percent, oils and fats by 14.10 percent, tea, coffee, and cocoa by 11.96 percent, fruits and nuts by 4.70 percent, and tobacco and cigarettes by 3.99 percent. Meanwhile, the index for meat and poultry, household appliances, fuel and lighting, and home maintenance services declined by 6.86 percent, 3.07 percent, 1.49 percent, and 1.08 percent, respectively.It is worth noting that the consumer price index (inflation) is calculated based on a basket of 850 consumer goods, including 325 food items and 525 non-food items.
