INDONESIA LAUNCHES NUTRI-LEVEL POLICY TO PROMOTE HEALTHY LIVING

Indonesia has launched the Nutri-Level policy to guide the public toward healthier food and beverage choices and reduce non-communicable diseases linked to excessive sugar, salt, and fat intake. Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the policy supports the Free Health Checkup (CKG) program and is based on global research and WHO standards. He warned that overconsumption contributes to serious illnesses such as hypertension and diabetes, including among children, which he described as deeply concerning. Preventing disease through healthier habits, he emphasized, is far better than treating people after they become ill. The minister also highlighted the heavy economic burden of these diseases, noting that BPJS Kesehatan spends around Rp50 trillion annually on related treatments. He hopes Nutri-Level will evolve into a nationwide healthy lifestyle movement, similar to trends like running or drinking coffee without sugar, which gain popularity when seen as fashionable. The policy will be introduced gradually, with a one- to two-year voluntary transition period for companies before labeling becomes mandatory. The initiative was developed with several agencies, including BPOM, BPJS Kesehatan, the Ministry of Population and Family Development, and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/412280/indonesia-launches-nutri-level-policy-to-promote-healthy-living?utm_source=antaranews&utm_medium=mobile&utm_campaign=latest_home (ICE GIACARTA)
