HYDROPONICS TENT FACTORY IN BEPZA EZ: $30.5M INVESTMENT, 3,000 JOBS EXPECTED
Greenhouse hydroponics tent manufacturing is set to boost Bangladesh's export-oriented sector with a new facility at the Bepza Economic Zone in Mirsarai, Chattogram. Hong Kong–China-based Green Pure Houseware (BD) Company Limited is investing $30.47 million, having received project approval in January. The factory will manufacture hydroponics tents, EVA cabinet mats, cartons, and PE packaging film, with an annual target of 400,000 to 500,000 units, primarily for export to the US, Europe, the UK, Canada, and Japan. This marks the first large-scale production of such products in Bangladesh, potentially diversifying the country's export basket beyond the ready-made garments sector. The project is expected to create around 3,000 jobs, significantly benefiting the local economy. Md Enamul Haque, Project Director of the Bepza Economic Zone, noted that this initiative aligns with a strategic plan to attract investment and develop high-tech industries, enhancing investor confidence in the region. With the rising global demand for agricultural technology, hydroponics tents could address challenges related to climate change and food security in Bangladesh. (ICE NEW DELHI)
