INDONESIA BOLSTERS CARBON PRICING FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono has reinforced Indonesia's commitment to implementing Carbon Economic Value (NEK) to transform the agricultural sector into a low-emission, sustainable industry. Agriculture is viewed as a strategic driver for climate mitigation, serving both as an emission source and a carbon sink through eco-friendly land management and low-emission technologies. By establishing robust carbon pricing mechanisms and adhering to international standards, the ministry aims to attract global investment through carbon credits, providing new financing for low-carbon projects while aligning with Indonesia's Long-Term Strategy 2050 and its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets. To accelerate this transition, the government has enacted Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025, which integrates carbon economic instruments across rice farming, livestock, and plantations. The ministry is currently finalizing specific regulatory frameworks and strategic road maps to achieve a targeted emission reduction of 10 million tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030. Key operational efforts include enhancing Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems using real-time data, promoting low-emission varieties and biogas, and increasing carbon literacy among farmers to ensure the agricultural sector effectively contributes to the national goal of a 30.11% emission reduction by 2029.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/412307/indonesia-bolsters-carbon-pricing-for-sustainable-agriculture  (ICE GIACARTA)
