Kazakhstan industrial output down 0.7% in Q1 on oil, gas declineKazakhstan's industrial output totaled 15.177 trillion tenge in January-March 2026, a 0.7% decrease compared with the same period in 2025, the Bureau of National Statistics under the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms reported Friday.The decline was driven by an 11.4% contraction in the extractive sector, where production fell to 6.25 trillion tenge, accounting for 41.2% of total output. The decrease stemmed from a 19.8% drop in crude oil extraction and a 15.1% decline in natural gas production.The manufacturing sector grew 8.5% to 7.56 trillion tenge, representing 49.8% of total industrial output. Gains were recorded in food production, up 12.6%; beverages, up 10%; tobacco products, up 37.6%; basic pharmaceutical products and preparations, up 1.5 times; rubber and plastic products, up 26.9%; other non-metallic mineral products, up 37.1%; fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment, up 39.3%; and machinery manufacturing, up 21.9%.The electricity, gas, steam and hot water supply sector rose 6.9%. Power generation and distribution increased 2.2%, gas supply grew 12.3%, and steam, hot water and air conditioning supply expanded 22.5%.The water supply, wastewater management, waste collection and pollution remediation sector posted a 16.2% increase. Water collection and distribution rose 12.3%, wastewater collection and treatment grew 13.9%, and waste disposal climbed 19.9%. (ICE ALMATY)
