MITSOTAKIS: CONSTRUCTION OF A SIXTH DOCK WILL UPGRADE THESSALONIKI'S PORT into a transit hub

The construction of the sixth dock will upgrade Thessaloniki's port and allow its transformation into a transit hub, while the completion of infrastructure providing road and rail access to the port and the city.The 6th dock is expected to be completed in three years, with Thessaloniki Port Authority CEO Yiannis Tsaras informing the prime minister that it is the biggest private project in the city. He said its completion will allow an increase of container traffic from 500,000 at present to roughly 1.5 million, meaning the port will "change levels" and be able to compete with ports of the broader surrounding region.I have stressed many times that very important projects are happening in the wider region," the prime minister said, noting that 17 new schools are being built in the Central Macedonia Region, most of them in Western Thessaloniki, through such a PPP scheme, emphasised that the terms of the PPP made the contractor responsible for the maintenance of the building for the next 25 years, rather than the municipality.Mitsotakis additionally referred to a project for a swimming complex in west Thessaloniki.
