INDONESIA INTENSIFIES EFFORTS TO DECREASE US DOLLAR DEPENDENCY IN INTERNATIONAL trade

Indonesia's local currency transaction (LCT) system has surged with $8.45 billion in total transactions in early 2026, marking a 163% increase from 2025, and the number of users is reaching an average of 16,030 per month. This expansion pushed efforts to reduce dependency on the US dollar, strengthening the rupiah and improving regional trade with countries like Malaysia, Japan, and China. To further push this initiative, Deputy for State-Owned Enterprise Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Ferry Irawan announced on Sunday (12/4) the formation of a National LCT Task Force to streamline processes, cut transaction costs, and encourage the use of local currencies in international trade.
