IMF: JORDAN HAS TAKEN STEPS TO STRENGTHEN RESILIENCE TO ECONOMIC SHOCKS

Jihad Azour, Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said Jordan has implemented several measures to strengthen its ability to respond to economic challenges, amid expectations of rising prices linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Speaking at a press conference at IMF headquarters in Washington, Azour noted that reaching a staff-level agreement on the fifth review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the second review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility “reflects recognition of the prudent policies Jordan has adopted to safeguard its economy.” He added that these measures include boosting shipping activity through the Port of Aqaba and enhancing the country’s readiness to respond to external shocks. According to the IMF, Jordan has also focused on strengthening energy security, improving supply chain resilience, maintaining liquidity in financial markets, and providing targeted support to vulnerable groups.
