The Iraqi government has directed provincial authorities to monitor market prices and prevent hoarding, alongside approving a series of development, energy, and administrative measures.The decisions were taken during a meeting of the Higher Committee for Coordination between Provinces, chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.The Prime Minister instructed governors to ensure price stability of essential goods and prevent monopolistic practices, particularly in light of current regional conditions.Key measures approved include:Installation of solar energy systems in 850 government buildings, including 550 funded domestically and 300 through international financing over six yearsImplementation of 101 afforestation projects, including green belts and forest initiativesExecution of clean energy and emissions reduction projects under the national initiative, supervised by the Ministry of EnvironmentAdministrative and regulatory actions include:Completion of contract transfers to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs following approval of the 2026 federal budget lawAssignment of local authorities to remove illegal constructions within 90 days at the violator's expenseOngoing oversight by the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Municipalities to enforce complianceThe Council also reviewed development projects in Babil province, including:A multi-storey car park with commercial facilitiesCommercial building projects and a modern market developmentRehabilitation of a tourist hotelProgress on a residential complex project (Ashur 2)Additional approvals covered commercial developments in Hilla and Abu Ghraq, as well as preparations for an investment hospital project in Babil.Governors were also instructed to support students ahead of final examinations and to implement the naming of "Lions of Mesopotamia Street" across provinces in recognition of Iraq's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
