CONSTRUCTION PERMITS FROM OEAB JUMPED BY 25% IN 3M-2026

Construction permits in the first three months of 2026 (3M-2026) jumped by 25.5% against figures from the same period the year prior. Construction permits increased to 1,532,138 m2 in 3M-2026, up from 1,220,832 m2 in 3M-2025, as per figures from the Order of Engineers and Architects of Beirut (OEAB).  In detail, looking at the regional distribution of construction permits in 3M-2026, Mount Lebanon took the lion’s share with 52.8% of the total. South Lebanon followed with 19.4% of the total during the period.  The Beirut and the Bekaa regions followed with 10.1% and 9.5% of total construction permits respectively during the period. The Nabattiyeh region had a contribution of 7.5% of total, followed by North Lebanon with a contribution of 0.7% of total.  This increase in construction permits was due to increases in construction permits for Mount Lebanon and The Bekaa regions of 43.6% and 12.5% respectively between 3M-2025 and 3M-2026. Construction permits for Beirut almost doubled in 3M-2026 compared to the same period the year prior. The increase was partially offset by decreases in construction permits in North-Lebanon, South-Lebanon and Nabattiyeh regions of 41.1%, 8.7% and 7.7% respectively during the period.  Additionally, at the level of the distribution of direct execution order transactions by type, the majority of direct execution orders came for residential buildings (46.1% of the total) in 3M-2026. Single dwellings and trade-related buildings & offices followed with contributions of 42.2% and 5.4% respectively during the period. Economic sector buildings accounted for 2.5% of the total while other projects consisted of 3.8% of the total in 3M-2026, as per data from OEAB. (ICE BEIRUT)
