IMF DISCUSSES FAST-TRACK FINANCING OF UP TO US$ 1 BILLION FOR LEBANON
The International Monetary Fund is in discussions with Lebanon over fast-track financial assistance to help the country cope with the economic impact of the ongoing regional conflict. Talks are reportedly focused on a financing package of US$ 800 million to US$ 1 billion, aimed at supporting the state budget and humanitarian response. The IMF said it remains engaged with Lebanese authorities on crisis management and broader economic reforms. However, Lebanon’s sovereign default status limits its access to certain IMF instruments, including direct use of rapid financing tools. While negotiations on a comprehensive reform program are ongoing, the current focus has shifted toward short-term support amid escalating economic and geopolitical pressures. (ICE BEIRUT)
