LITHUANIA ALLOCATES €3 MILLION FOR ADVANCED AIRSPACE SECURITY SOLUTIONS

The Lithuanian Ministry of Economy and Innovation has signed a cooperation agreement with 10 national institutions to accelerate the development of technologies to counter hybrid airspace threats. The budget for the upcoming prototype development phase has been tripled to €3 million, with a formal pre-commercial procurement (PCP) call scheduled for late April 2026.The project focuses on creating real-time detection and interception systems for cargo-carrying weather balloons—tools frequently used for smuggling and hybrid activities. The initiative involves the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the State Border Guard Service, offering significant opportunities for international firms specialized in sensors, surveillance systems, and C-UAS (Counter-UAS) technologies looking to enter the Baltic defense-tech market.
