Astana awaiting EU decision on Kazakh horsemeat exports, Agriculture Ministry saysKazakhstan is continuing consultations with the European Commission over its application to export horsemeat to European Union countries, Deputy Agriculture Minister Yerbol Taszhurekov told Interfax-Kazakhstan.“The Veterinary Control and Surveillance Committee of the ministry is still holding consultations with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety concerning Kazakhstan’s applications for the export of livestock products, including horsemeat, to EU countries,” Taszhurekov said.Once official approval to export horsemeat to EU countries is received, foreign trade operators will be informed without delay, the deputy minister added.Kazakhstan has been increasing horsemeat production in recent years. Output reached 178,100 tonnes in 2025, compared with 171,000 tonnes in 2024 and 167,000 tonnes in 2023. The output is projected to rise to about 182,000 tonnes in 2026, Taszhurekov said.He added that Kazakhstan exported 143 tonnes of horsemeat to Uzbekistan in 2025. (ICE ALMATY)
